Gettin Nutty About Almonds

image

image

A high-fat food that’s good for your health? Yes, you heard (or read) correctly. Historians believe that almonds, along with dates, were among the earliest cultivated foods. The earliest varieties were found in China and carried by traders down the ancient silk road to Turkey, Greece and the Middle East. Sure, maybe I’m partial to almonds because they were said to be President Clinton’s snack of choice at both the 1993 and 1997 inaugurations…or maybe superstitious me REALLY believes that if I eat almonds before drinking, my chance of a hangover will be reduced. In any event, almonds are California’s largest tree nut crop in total dollar value and acreage so uh, I’m a fan…a big fan…can you tell?

Flaxseed Banana & Almond Butter Shake
Ingredients:
  • 1 banana
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
  • drizzle of honey
Directions:
Throw your ingredients into a blender & blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and get nutty about your love for almonds (which is evidentely something that I have been quite successful in doing).
Cheers!
