Divisidero Farmers Market

How is it possible that I allow myself to forget my precise reasons for loving farmer’s markets? In a big supermarket everyone seems so rushed and frantic to get their groceries, run to the shortest line, and get out the sliding glass doors in five minutes flat. At a farmer’s market, the general approach seems to be a casual stroll. It’s as if I’m walking through a park full of food (really really good food) with pleasant people who are in no mad dash to get to the front of any line. In fact, people are much more likely to wave you forward and say, “No you go first…I’m still deciding.” So…let me relay a few of my favorite items to you in hopes that you will attend the Sunday Divisadero farmer’s market and support these new food-loving friends I have made.
‘Rodin Farms’: My love for almonds just reached an entirely new level. I stood sampling for a good ten to fifteen minutes before deciding on which package of almonds I wanted to purchase. Butter toffee came in at a close second, followed by honey roasted cinnamon—-but I must say the real winner in my eyes turned out to be rasberry honey lemon. In fact, I’m currently eating a handful of them and putting off my homework to write about just how tasty they truly are. Now THAT says something big. I suppose it didn’t hurt either that the booth was run by a charming boy who laughed when I asked where the tip jar was…but either way, the almonds are to die for.
‘Home Maid Ravioli’: After devouring the garlic parmeasan italian cheese and sauce spread, I think it’s safe to say I will be returning to this Italian booth to try the ravioli. Other spreads included artichoke & lemon pepper, spinach, and chipotle—but after trying all of them (yes, all of them) I was most impressed with the garlic parmeasan spread. We ate it that day with crackers, vegetables, and also used it as a spread on turkey sandwiches with sliced Persian cucumbers. It was shortly thereafter that the strangest thing happened…the spread was gone, vanished, not a bite left. I suppose that can only mean one thing…it’s time for Sunday to be here in hopes that I can return to the farmer’s market and pick up some more:)

Cheers!
