Feed Your Hungry Heart

Tacolicious (Marina District, San Francisco)

My brother and his girlfriend arrived on my doorstep last weekend tired, hungry, and ready for the Labor Day festivities to begin. Our first adventure to the Palace of Fine Arts required a big lunch before we could begin. I have been to Tacolicious numerous times and each time I become increasingly more pleased with the service, the tastes, and the people.
Drinks: The cocktail list includes freshly squeezed margaritas as well as drinks with elderflower, hibiscus tea, grapefruit, agave nectar, vanilla bean, and orange blossom water. They look as pretty as they sound and taste even better.
Food: We each ordered two tacos and though we could have kept eating, it was the perfect amount. The fried local rock cod with cabbage and tangy crema sauce was a favorite, as well as the guajillo braised beef short rib. My brother ordered a side of drunken beans which came with bacon, onion, and “pickled things.” Yum.
The Atmosphere: We sat outside with sunshine on our backs, great people who laughed at our jokes surrounding us, and a waitress who could not have been sweeter. If you aren’t already convinced, find a nice day and some nice people and venture to the Marina District to give Tacolicious a try.

Dell’uva (North Beach, San Francsico)

I love this place for various reasons.
1. $15 bottomless mimosas with 25 others on Labor Day weekend is fabulous…yet even more fabulous is that we did not have to ask once for refills. The waiters did not try to limit our mimosa consumption but instead, they encouraged it. Bubbles and vitamin C! Now who can complain about that?
2. The atmosphere is great…a bit of 90’s hip hop, some older people, some younger people, outdoor seating and the vibe of North Beach.
3. THE FOOD. It’s inexpensive (talking about $5.50 for breakfast). It’s rich. It’s fresh. My only complaint is that it seemed to be over before it began! This can only mean one thing…I must go back.
Basically, if you are looking for a weekend place in North Beach to have a little food, drink a little beverage, and celebrate your previous night of debauchery…Dell’Uva would be it.

Cheers!
